How to Determine Your Core Values

So, over the past four weeks, I have been lucky enough to work with Estelle of Florescit Reiki & Life Coaching. She has boosted me from a place of stagnant frustration and thinking small, to a place of taking action steps and feeling momentum in my life and career. I’ve been encouraged to look at different areas of my life, and how satisfied I am with each area in the Wheel of Life. These areas include, Relationships, Family, Career, Money, and more. I told Estelle that I felt like I needed a boost in my career, because I wasn’t where I knew I could be as a recent graduate of Drexel University.

Why take the time to think about your core values, and what is important to you? With this foundation of self knowledge and understanding, you can look back on your core values while making any sort of decision in life. You may be thinking, where do I even start?

So after about 3 weeks of working with Estelle, I saw an ad on facebook for a webinar on how to land the perfect job and the Limitless Career Lab. I attended the webinar and asked my angel cards as well as followed my intuition to determine whether to sign up for the complete course with Ashley Stahl. I took the leap and felt that no matter where it took me, I would be making huge strides of progress, based on the positive energy that Ashley was putting out to us as well has her expertise on the subject.  I received an email from Ashley called How to Find More Energy in Your Life, and of course was fascinated since it had the word energy in the title. The article resonated heavily with some of the things I had already been going over with Estelle. In the article there is a handy PDF guide from Ashley International on Identifying Your Core Values. I’ve attached the link to the complete article for you here:

Here’s How to Find More Energy in Your Life

After the initial brainstorm session with my coach Estelle, and then a weeks of narrowing down my selections, I met with Estelle again to narrow down my selections even more. The process was thorough because Estelle asked me what the words really meant to me in my life. My homework was to write my 5 core values on index cards. I didn’t want to leave anything out, so luckily I was able to write brief descriptions on the back of the cards to give some extra detail.

  1. Self-Expression
  2. Spirituality
  3. Progressiveness/Growth
  4. Community
  5. Wellness
  6. Self-Love

Initially, my 5 values were Self-expression, Spirituality, Progressiveness/Growth, Wellness, and Self-Love. After a few days going over these cards, and after reading Ashley’s guide to Identifying Core Values, I decided that Community has always been an important aspect in my life. I grew up in a neighborhood where we shared brunches on Saturdays and Sundays with neighbors, and we were able to ask for a helping hand if need be. What this means to me in my life now is that I realize we are all in this together, aka I couldn’t survive on my own, and life is way more fun with friends! I came back the next week to ask Estelle if I could keep a 6th core value and she said of course! That’s the beauty of working with Estelle, as she really holds the space for you to have the freedom to express however you dream and envision your life to be and  then guide it into a concise, real world focus. If you feel lost and confused, know you are not showing up to your full potential, or are just looking for some friendly guidance, I highly recommend Estelle!
