Major Sport Investment Program

The purpose of the Major Sport Investment Program is to provide funding to organizations hosting sporting events, recognizing that these events increase economic impact and overnight visitation to Greater Victoria. This program is designed to inspire organizations and event holders to relocate their event to Greater Victoria and target events that take place peak-season. The Major Sport Investment Program is administered through the Greater Victoria Sport Tourism Commission. 

Partnership investment will only be considered for major sport events that: 

• Attract new sport events to Greater Victoria 

• Generate significant measurable overnight stays in paid accommodations  

• Have a promotional plan in place 

• Promote tourism and the region 

• Contribute to local economic development  

• Have a legacy strategy in place  

• Preference is given to peak-season (January to April, November to December) sporting events 

• Agree and comply with the Greater Victoria Sports Tourism Commission’s sending out hotel RFPs and our process for tracking room blocks through CRM (Customer Relationship Management) technology

The administration of Major Sport Investment Partnership Program is managed as per the defined policy through the Greater Victoria Sport Tourism Commission. Incomplete applications will result in a reduction in sponsorship value and/or refusal of event applications. Please note that late applications may be considered and will be evaluated on an individual basis.
