Tourism in Greater Victoria contributes significantly and directly to the region’s economy through business sales, employment and related activities. An economic impact study in 2018 showed that the total direct, indirect and induced impacts of Greater Victoria’s tourism industry amounted to $2.3 billion in economic outputs, supported more than 22,000 jobs, generated almost $730 million in wages and salaries, and contributed more than $375 million to federal, provincial and municipal taxes. Tourism also brings almost $1.4 billion in visitor expenditures into Greater Victoria’s economy each year.
Destination Greater Victoria provides research tools and resources such as the Destinations International’s Event Impact Calculator to help assess the value and contribution of meetings, conferences and other events to Greater Victoria’s economy. Key results include business sales generated by the event, jobs supported by the event, including annual FTEs, contributions to federal, provincial, and local taxes and event return on investment.
